Travelling Field Engineer, Mechanical

About us:

A&K Robotics develops autonomous mobility technology designed to help people move through large, complex spaces with more freedom and independence. Designed and built in Canada and the US, our Cruz™ Mobility Pod is an all-electric, AI-enabled mobility solution that helps travellers navigate airports with greater ease, comfort, and independence.

We operate in dynamic, human-centered environments where autonomy is not just a technical challenge but a social one. In partnership with leading airports and airlines, we're transforming the passenger experience and making travel more accessible, enjoyable, and efficient. We're looking for outstanding, ambitious people to join our growing team.

Context & Role:

We’re looking for a hands-on mechanical engineer who loves working with people and wants to help travelers enjoy exceptional experiences with our Cruz mobility pods. Your main mission is to bring our technology to life in airports: welcoming passengers, keeping robots ready for service, solving problems, and helping our customers deliver a smooth, memorable experience.

This is a primarily airport-based, customer-facing role with extensive travel. You’ll take ownership of daily deployment activities, build trusted relationships with airport teams, and help travellers discover greater freedom and independence as they move through the terminal.

You’ll also bring strong mechanical design skills to our engineering and production team. Alongside field operations, you’ll design and refine components and assemblies, support production and quality assurance, and turn what you learn on site into practical product improvements. It’s a role for someone who enjoys people, practical engineering, and seeing their work make a difference in everyday use.

What you’ll be doing at A&K:

  • Deliver warm, personalized passenger experiences: Proactively engage with travelers, explain the pods clearly, support boarding and rides, and respond thoughtfully to individual needs and preferences.
  • Coordinate efficient daily airport operations to ensure pods are readily available, passenger service runs smoothly, and travelers can make the most of the service.
  • Keep pods safe, clean, and ready for service, including daily setup, charging, safety checks, and route inspections.
  • Be a dependable on-site contact for airport customers, their teams, and service partners. Provide clear, concise updates, raise issues early, and follow through on commitments.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain mechanical and electrical systems, including motors, sensors, and wiring. Perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and collaborate with the software team on firmware-related issues.
  • Support airport pilots and deployments, including equipment preparation, site setup and readiness, customer orientation, and operational handovers.
  • Drive continuous product and operational improvements by bringing passenger feedback and field experience back to our R&D team, helping improve reliability, serviceability, and ultimately rider and customer experience.
  • Develop and improve mechanical components, assemblies, and physical features, from concept sketches and 3D CAD models through prototyping, fabrication, installation, and testing, with attention to passenger comfort, reliability, ease of servicing and style.
  • Support production, assembly, and integration of mechanical and electronic components, including motors, power, and sensor systems, and help carry out functional on-site testing and quality assurance.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Exceptional 3D CAD skills, with experience designing complex assemblies and aesthetically appealing products, preferably using SolidWorks.
  • Hands-on experience assembling, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing electromechanical products, with a systematic approach to diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
  • A warm, patient approach to customer service and an interest in helping travellers of different ages, backgrounds, and accessibility needs feel comfortable and respected.
  • Sound judgment, a calm and good-natured manner under pressure, close attention to detail, and dependable follow-through.
  • Clear spoken and written communication, including the ability to explain technical issues simply to customers and provide precise information to engineers.
  • The ability to organize your work independently, take care of everyday operational details, and know when to involve teammates or ask for help.
  • Confidence using computers and diagnostic tools, following technical procedures, and learning unfamiliar hardware and software systems.
  • Willingness and ability to spend substantial periods travelling within Canada and internationally, and to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.
  • Authorization to work in Canada and the ability to meet travel and work authorization requirements for international assignments, including in the United States.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience applying design-for-manufacturing principles to physical products.
  • Hands-on experience with machining and fabrication, including the safe use of mills, lathes, welding equipment, or sheet metal tools.
  • Experience configuring, integrating, and testing motor and sensor systems in mobile robots, vehicles, or other automated equipment.
  • Experience in field service, customer support, hospitality, airport operations, or technology deployments.
  • Fluency in additional major languages.
  • Basic programming skills in C, C++, or Python.
  • Familiarity with robotics and robot software such as ROS.
  • Experience maintaining cars, motorcycles, bicycles, or other electromechanical devices. Personal projects count.
  • Experience moving and handling heavy equipment safely using appropriate equipment and procedures.

Most importantly, you share our values:

  • Diversity makes innovation. We debate, listen, respect and include different perspectives
  • Always strive to learn and be better. We push the bar higher and insist on the best
  • Create value for people. Think big, be bold and see opportunities where others see challenges
  • Make it better than we found it. Consider the long-term impact of our actions today
  • Grit. Good things take work. We commit, battle and deliver as a team

Compensation and Perks:

  • Competitive Salary: $60,000 - $120,000 depending on experience
  • Stock options - share in the upside as we grow and scale
  • Medical benefits
  • Work directly with founders and be part of a building high-growth company
  • Central Vancouver office location and gym access at current location
